Transplanting, the act of moving or transferring to another place.
Which is what my classmates and I accomplished yesterday morning. As part of the learning process we started to remove our Parsley, Sunflower, and Tomatoes from their original resting place into some solar cups to allow them to grow bigger since the first holding place wasn't big enough. Moving, however, is easier said than done. First we had to write the name of the plant onto each cup so we wouldn't mix them up, I believe this was probably the easiest step. Second, we had to carefully remove each plant from its place without breaking too many roots and after each one was taken out we had to remove additional dirt that would cling to the roots, this step was a little hard because just pulling on a dirt clump that was stuck could possibly break the root. Third, we put dirt into the solar cups and then we used a pencil to put a hole into the middle before we would put the plant in and cover the roots. (While making sure the dirt was packed in) After all that had gotten done the only thing left was the water all the plants, which was also quite easy. It may not have seemed too hard but it was a little harder than I thought.

What is Mitosis? In short, Mitosis plays a part in the cell cycle and when replicated chromosomes will separate into two new nuclei.
How does a plant grow? Well like any other living thing it requires water, only a plant absorbs water through its roots, plants also need sunlight it also absorbs this through an action commonly known as photosynthesis, that is the process of creating food out of sunlight. This isn't it though, plants also need time, space, clean air, good soil, and nutrients to grow. We can help plants grown by watering regularly and using fertilizer to feed, and provide nutrients for the plants to grow. So in the past day we have begun to set up a school Greenhouse dedicated planting, learning how to take care of them and learning how to possibly make food out of them.
The set up of the Greenhouse was a bit more timey than you would originally think. First, we had to size the tables along the side and correctly measure how many we would need along each side, not only that but we had to make sure each table matched up with each other, we did this by taping down a long string and measuring it 36 inches away from the middle of the room. Once we had the string down we used a screwdriver on a string as a pointer to show where the edge of the table was. If it was right behind the string we would move the table out a bit. After awhile of this we then moved onto setting down a few small raised beds onto the tables and filling them with dirt, as dirt was poured we had a couple people, including myself, break apart the dirt clumps. So far that is all that had been done. |
